Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark on a high-level diplomatic tour to the United Kingdom and the Maldives from July 23 to 26. The visit to the UK is especially significant, as it is expected to culminate in the long-awaited signing of the India–UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA), which has been in negotiation for over two years. Modi will meet British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and also be hosted by King Charles III. Both countries aim to deepen cooperation in technology, finance, defense manufacturing, and climate action. The FTA could significantly reduce tariffs on goods like Scotch whisky, Indian textiles, and EV components.

Following his UK visit, PM Modi will head to the Maldives to attend the country’s Independence Day celebrations as Guest of Honour. This visit is seen as a strategic move to rebuild ties with Male’s new administration after months of diplomatic tension. India is expected to announce new infrastructure and defense support projects, including a coastal radar upgrade. The trip underscores India's efforts to strengthen its neighborhood-first policy while balancing its presence in the Indo-Pacific amid increasing Chinese influence. It also signals New Delhi’s intent to play a proactive role in South Asian stability and global trade rebalancing.
